Siment is our new collection of planters and vases inspired by the concrete infrastructure of urban India.
BANGALORE WATER TOWERS
The story of Siment is about how in India concrete is transformed from a material of pure functionality into an opportunity for decoration. We grew interested in creating typologies of all the brutalist structures we saw. Water towers and flyover infrastructure fascinated us the most because they appeared to have taken on a secondary or unofficial use within the environments they belonged to. They were painted, or being used as surfaces for impromptu expression and essentially became ornaments in the neighbourhood. Almost as though their primary function wasn’t enough reason for existence!
Siment celebrates this blurring of decoration and function, and of secondary use, that is ever-present in Indian life.
